Triptorelin

What is Triptorelin?

Triptorelin is a synthetic decapeptide analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). It works as a potent GnRH agonist, initially stimulating the pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). However, with continuous administration, it downregulates the GnRH receptors in the pituitary, leading to a profound suppression of LH and FSH release. This results in a significant reduction in the production of testosterone in men and estrogen in women, a state often referred to as medical castration. Triptorelin is primarily used to treat hormone-dependent cancers like prostate cancer and breast cancer, as well as conditions like endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and central precocious puberty. It is also used in assisted reproduction technologies.
