Heart and vascular health: heart and blood-vessel bioregulators, and what the evidence shows
Heart health rests on eight measurable things the American Heart Association calls Life's Essential 8: diet, physical activity, nicotine, sleep, weight, cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure. Know your numbers and treat them with your clinician. Heart and blood-vessel bioregulators have lab studies on vascular cells and one small uncontrolled Russian study of the synthetic peptide Vesugen. No capsule has been tested in a heart trial. Never use one in place of prescribed heart medicine.

Start with the numbers that matter
In 2022 the American Heart Association updated its cardiovascular health score to Life's Essential 8, adding sleep to the original seven. Four are behaviors (diet, physical activity, nicotine exposure, sleep) and four are measurements (body mass index, non-HDL cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure). Each is scored 0–100, and the score is meant to be tracked with your clinician over time.
Chest pain, shortness of breath on exertion, fainting or a racing irregular heartbeat need prompt medical care, not a supplement.
Human studies: heart and vessel bioregulators
The only human study we found that tested a vessel bioregulator by name is a 2014 Russian report on Vesugen, the synthetic tripeptide Lys-Glu-Asp (KED), in 41 men with erectile problems linked to atherosclerosis. The authors reported better blood flow in the penile arteries after treatment. There was no control group, and it was run with the originating research group.
No human trial has tested Kardium, Chelohart, Ventfort or any heart-tissue capsule.
Lab and animal studies
Khavinson's group reported that two short peptides increased markers of cell renewal and lowered E-selectin, an adhesion molecule involved in plaque formation, in cultures of aging vascular cells. A 2016 Russian paper reviews the proposed molecular actions of the KED peptide in models of atherosclerosis and restenosis. These are mechanism studies, not evidence that a capsule protects the heart.
How to choose, if you try one
Kardium is the Vita house-line heart capsule. The Vita line has no blood-vessel product, so for vessels Vita-Stream sells GARMONIA Ventfort (natural vessel Cytomax) and Cytogen Vesugen (the synthetic KED peptide). Chelohart is GARMONIA's heart Cytomax.
If you take blood pressure, cholesterol, blood-thinning or heart-rhythm medicine, ask your prescriber before adding any supplement. Keep taking what you are prescribed.
Heart and blood-vessel bioregulator capsules (Vita-Stream)
Dietary supplements with structure/function wording. No human trial has tested these products by name. Not a substitute for prescribed heart medicine. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

FAQ
Do heart bioregulators improve heart health?
That has not been shown in people. The research is lab work on vascular cells plus one small uncontrolled study of the vessel peptide Vesugen. No heart-tissue capsule has been tested in a human trial.
What is Vesugen?
Vesugen is a synthetic tripeptide, Lys-Glu-Asp (KED), from Khavinson's Cytogen line, aimed at blood vessels. Vita-Stream sells it as a capsule. Its human evidence is one uncontrolled Russian study in 41 men.
Can I take Kardium with blood pressure or heart medication?
Ask your prescriber first. There are no interaction studies, and a supplement should never replace prescribed heart medicine.
What does the research say actually protects the heart?
The AHA's Life's Essential 8: a healthy diet, regular activity, no nicotine, enough sleep, a healthy weight, and keeping cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure in range, with treatment when needed.

Yes. Vita-Stream links are affiliate links (marked Paid), and orders placed with the code KymataLabs are credited to our affiliate account at no extra cost to you. It does not change the evidence notes.
