Immune support: thymus bioregulators, the Thymalin research and what actually helps
The best-supported habits for a normally working immune system are enough sleep, staying up to date on vaccines, regular activity and not smoking. In a rhinovirus challenge study, people who slept under six hours were far more likely to catch a cold. Vitamin D helped most in people who were very low in it. Thymus bioregulators come from Khavinson's research on Thymalin, an injectable thymus extract. The human data on it are old, from one research group and on injections. No oral thymus capsule has been tested in a human trial.

Start with what has human evidence
Sleep is the best-documented everyday habit. In a study where 164 healthy adults were given rhinovirus nasal drops, those who slept under 5 hours (odds ratio 4.50) or 5 to 6 hours (4.24) a night were more likely to develop a clinical cold than those who slept more than 7 hours.
Vitamin D is the supplement with the best data for respiratory infections. A 2017 meta-analysis of individual data from 25 randomized trials (about 11,000 people) found fewer acute respiratory infections with daily or weekly vitamin D, with the biggest effect in people who were very deficient. Big single bolus doses did not help. A blood test tells you whether you are low.
Vaccines, hand hygiene, regular activity and not smoking matter more than anything in a capsule. Frequent, severe or unusual infections need a clinician, not a supplement.
Thymus peptides: human studies
Thymalin is a polypeptide extract of animal thymus developed in the Soviet Union and given by injection. Most of what is said about thymus bioregulators traces back to it.
The best-known human report followed 266 older people in St. Petersburg and Kyiv for 6 to 8 years. Some received Thymalin and/or Epithalamin injections during the first 2 to 3 years. The authors reported fewer respiratory infections and lower mortality than in controls. It was run by the group that developed the products, it was not a blinded placebo-controlled trial, and it used injections, so it is not evidence for an oral capsule.
Thymus peptides: lab studies
Recent work from the same group is laboratory research. In 2020 they reported that Thymalin changed differentiation markers of human blood stem cells in culture. A 2023 paper used computer docking and bioinformatics to propose how its dipeptides (KE and EW) might act on gene expression. These are hypotheses about mechanism, not results in people.
Where the capsules fit
Vita-Stream sells two kinds of thymus capsules: its own Vita Peptides line (Thymusol, and the Vita Defender complex that adds adrenal and pituitary peptides) and the original GARMONIA and Cytogen products (Vladonix, Crystagen). All are dietary supplements with structure/function wording such as "supports thymus function and normal immune-system balance."
If you try one, run it as a one-month course after the basics are in place, and do not use it in place of vaccines or medical care. People with an autoimmune condition, a transplant or who take immunosuppressants should ask their clinician first.

FAQ
Do thymus bioregulators boost the immune system?
That has not been shown in people for any oral capsule. The human reports are on injectable Thymalin, mostly from the research group that developed it, and they were not blinded placebo-controlled trials. The capsules are sold with structure/function wording only.
What is the difference between Thymalin and Thymusol?
Thymalin is an injectable thymus extract used as a medicine in Russia. Thymusol is a US-sold oral dietary supplement from the Vita Peptides line made from thymus peptides. They are different products, and the Thymalin studies do not apply to Thymusol.
What helps immunity most according to research?
Enough sleep (under 6 hours a night was linked to roughly four times the odds of catching a cold in a challenge study), keeping vaccines current, regular activity and not smoking. Vitamin D helps most in people who are deficient.
Can I take thymus bioregulators with an autoimmune condition?
Ask your clinician first. There are no safety studies in people with autoimmune disease, transplants or immunosuppressant therapy.
Do you earn money from these links?
Yes. Vita-Stream links are affiliate links (marked Paid), and orders placed with the code KymataLabs are credited to our affiliate account at no extra cost to you. It does not change the evidence notes.
