Description
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) that is the active component of Epithalamin, confirmed to exist endogenously in pineal gland extracts in 2017. It is the most researched synthetic anti-aging peptide in the world. Epitalon activates the telomerase enzyme by inducing expression of TERT gene components, leading to telomere elongation at the ends of chromosomes—the protective caps that shorten with each cell division and contribute to cellular aging. These telomere findings come from cell cultures (PMID 12937682); they have not been shown in people. Epitalon has also been studied in research on melatonin regulation and antioxidant activity. Regulatory context: on July 24, 2026 an FDA advisory committee (the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee) voted narrowly, against the FDA staff recommendation, to recommend adding epitalon to the 503A bulks list used by compounding pharmacies. The vote is non-binding, and FDA had not acted on it as of October 2026. Epitalon is not an FDA-approved drug.
